Waste management diatomaceous earth
The disposal of kieselgur waste is of great importance for the production of beverages (primarily beer) and food products. Being a fossil and possessing high porosity, it is used as an absorbent.
A large amount of silica gives the material excellent filtering properties. Another name for kieselgur is diatomite, diatomaceous earth, mountain flour. It is centuries-old deposits of algae and plankton.
But any properties associated with a useful chemical composition and capacity end in time — and what to do with the spent volume of kieselgur?
The essence of the problem
This mass cannot be thrown out in any way: it has high looseness and porosity, the chemical composition (silicon, iron, calcium, aluminum compounds) and accumulated substances give it poisonous and even corrosive properties. For these reasons, kieselgur is considered as hazardous waste of the 4th hazard class.
It must be disposed of with the receipt of the relevant documentation, and it is strictly prohibited to discard uncontrollably.
Disposal Options
There are such proven methods of neutralizing harmful properties and recycling kieselgur waste:
pressurization of an excessively contaminated volume — to reduce the active area, it is necessary to compress the material to the maximum (before that, the kieselgur should be dried), as a result of which the volume will decrease, and it can be placed in a closed landfill for the natural decomposition of harmful substances, after which it is taken back into work;
the minimum hazard mass can be processed into fertilizers or food additives for the livestock industry after chemical treatment;
the low hazard mass can be processed into building mixtures after chemical treatment;
annealing under known temperature conditions allows material to be regenerated and returned for reuse.
The admissibility of repeated use and the finished product from kieselgur waste are checked in specialized laboratories — therefore, safety is ensured by 100%.
As a result, the entire volume of kieselgur is processed and returned to industry — it is environmentally friendly, safe and preserves natural resources.
