The disposal of spent containers and packaging is a rather serious issue: almost all consumer goods and food products, household appliances and equipment, toys and furniture are packaged in cardboard, paper, polymer film or a harder form of plastic, shock-absorbing and heat-insulating materials, glass and metal are also found.

When unpacking, no longer necessary materials are instantly formed, which are sent to landfill. Well, if there are few, and they are made of simple materials, and if there are many?

The essence of the problem

Due to the nature of packaging materials, they will decompose for a long time even in the open air, during which they take up a lot of space. Production is only increasing turnover, which is why the production of waste in the form of containers and packaging is growing.

The bulk will lie for decades, polluting nature. There is a known case when a light plastic cup of yogurt thrown into the sea was found after almost 40 years, and there were no negative changes on the object.

Opportunities

They divide the capacious concept of «packaging» into single-use and reusable:

disposable is discarded, it cannot be reused;

reusable packagings can be used at least once after processing (bottles for liquids, boxes, etc.).

The main problem is to neutralize the negative impact of structural, protective and paint materials on nature. For this purpose, a whole range of processing and recycling processes has been invented and successfully implemented:

processing of materials for repeated use as a semi-finished product (waste paper, glass scrap, scrap metal);

chemical and thermal processing of varieties of polymer raw materials (the most technically complex product);

use as a solid filler in the production of building materials and in construction operations;

thermal processing to obtain electricity (combustion under controlled conditions at power plants);

pyrolysis as a thermochemical method of producing combustible gases and other useful compounds;

storage at a special site.
