If a person is not lucky enough to buy a cake or other sweetness that expires, but in the coming hours there is a holiday — who will want to throw away a tasty product? Meanwhile, the disposal of confectionery products is one of the important components of working with food products.

The essence of the problem


Any food product has a shelf life and certain storage conditions. If the actual conditions differ from the prescribed ones, it becomes necessary to prevent the already damaged product from the consumer. Such products are removed from the store (everyone could see this when employees of trading halls remove «delay» from the shelves) and take them out of the warehouse.


Confectionary products quickly dry up and become a source of odors for insects and pests. So, the remains of sweets most often feed on flies, cockroaches and other parasites.

As a result, an unfavorable bacterial environment is formed and actively developed, which is aggravated by the natural decomposition of food components.


Disposal Options


The simplest is secondary use as a raw material. Due to the high content of sugar (or its substitute) and dyes, the products do not disappear after the expiration date immediately — it can be crushed and used in the manufacture of crumbs, biscuits or other bakery products. The method is also used when creating drinks — kvass, beer and some other products are impossible without fermentation.


Another method is processing into feed (after removing wraps and packaging). The high sugar content is neutralized, the products become food for animals — exclusively under controlled conditions. To protect the environment, products cannot be discarded: a wild animal or bird, having eaten poor-quality confectionery products, can be poisoned.


If the above-described processes are not possible, grinding, dissolving in water and draining to treatment facilities is carried out. Combustible masses are burned in thermal furnaces — the smaller the dry residue, the faster it will decompose naturally at the storage site.
